How To Get To Dujiangyan Panda Base

How to Get to Dujiangyan Panda Base: Transport Guide

⚠️ 2026 Notice: The Dujiangyan Panda Base is temporarily CLOSED for renovation from April 23, 2026. No reopening date has been confirmed. This transport guide will be accurate once the base reopens. If you are looking for an open panda facility in Dujiangyan right now, Panda Valley is 19km away and currently operating.

The CCRCGP Dujiangyan Panda Base — 中华大熊猫苑都江堰基地, also called 熊猫乐园 — sits in Qingchengshan Town, 18km southwest of Dujiangyan city center and 70km from central Chengdu. The fastest independent route is high-speed train from Xipu to Qingchengshan Station, then taxi. Door-to-door from central Chengdu: 75–90 minutes.

1. Where Is the Dujiangyan Panda Base?

The base sits in Qingchengshan Town, 18km southwest of Dujiangyan city center and 5km south of Qingchengshan Station — with Qingcheng Mountain to its north and Jiezi Ancient Town to its south. It opened in June 2013, funded by the Hong Kong SAR government after the 2008 earthquake. Its purpose is disease control, rescue, and elderly panda care, not breeding — which shapes the layout and the kind of pandas you will see here.

Note: Dujiangyan has two separate panda facilities 19km apart. This guide covers the CCRCGP base (熊猫乐园) near Qingchengshan Station. If you are looking for Panda Valley (熊猫谷) near Dujiangyan city center, see our Dujiangyan Panda Valley visitor guide and transport guide instead.

→ See our Dujiangyan Panda Base visitor guide for opening hours, tickets, what to see, and tips on the volunteer program.

The train is the fastest and most reliable independent route. Get off at Qingchengshan Station (青城山站) — not Lidui Park Station (离堆公园站) and not Dujiangyan Station (都江堰站). Those two stations serve the city center, 18km away in the wrong direction. We have seen visitors emerge from Lidui Park Station looking for this base. That mistake costs an hour — the hour before 09:00 feeding time.

⚠️ Get off at Qingchengshan Station (青城山站) — not Lidui Park Station (离堆公园站) or Dujiangyan Station (都江堰站)

Step 1 — Get to Xipu Station (犀浦站)

Take Metro Line 2 or Line 6 to Xipu Station. From Chunxi Road, this takes 30–35 minutes. Follow the signs inside Xipu to the intercity rail platform — it is a separate ticket hall from the metro gates.

Step 2 — Intercity rail: Xipu → Qingchengshan Station (青城山站)

Qingchengshan Railway Station
Qingchengshan Railway Station

Trains run approximately every 20–30 minutes from 07:00 to 21:00. Xipu to Qingchengshan takes 35–45 minutes and costs CNY 10–15. Buy on the 12306 app or at the station window. Buy your return ticket at the same time — trains sell out on weekends and national holidays, and the afternoon return peak starts before 15:00.

Some trains stop at Lidui Park Station or Dujiangyan Station before continuing to Qingchengshan. All are on the same line. Confirm your ticket shows 青城山 as the final destination.

Step 3 — From Qingchengshan Station to the base

Exit the station and take a taxi or Didi. The base is 5km away — 10–15 minutes, CNY 12–15. In Didi, search 中华大熊猫苑都江堰基地. At the station taxi rank, show the driver this: 青城山镇石桥社区怀中路,大熊猫苑.

Bus 102 also runs from Qingchengshan Station toward the base. Alight at Xiongmao Jikong Zhongxin (熊猫疾控中心) — watch for this stop name on the display screen inside the bus — and walk 5 minutes to the entrance. Bus frequency is every 30–40 minutes. For an 09:00 arrival, taxi is more reliable.

Take Metro Line 2 to Chadianzi Bus Station (茶店子客运站). Long-distance coaches run to Dujiangyan Bus Station (都江堰客运中心) from approximately 07:30, roughly every 30 minutes. Journey: 1.5–2 hours, CNY 10–15.

From Dujiangyan Bus Station, take Bus 102 toward Qingchengshan. Ride to Xiongmao Jikong Zhongxin (熊猫疾控中心) — 27 stops, approximately 70 minutes — then walk 5 minutes to the entrance. Total door-to-door: 2.5–3 hours, which makes a 09:00 arrival from central Chengdu impossible. Use this route only if intercity rail is disrupted.

A Didi from central Chengdu costs CNY 130–180 and takes 75–90 minutes. For groups of 3 or more, the per-person cost becomes comparable to the train. Solo and pair travelers pay less by train.

Return note: taxis wait at the base entrance, but the queue at peak departure times (12:00–14:00) can run 15–20 minutes. Didi is more reliable. Set it up and save the destination before your trip.

Couple Greeted By Driver Near Pandas

A private car from a Chengdu hotel to the base takes 75–90 minutes. For clients combining the base with Qingcheng Mountain — the two are 5km apart and share the same station — private car is the only option that handles the timing cleanly: base from 09:00 to 12:00, then the driver takes you directly to whichever Qingcheng Mountain gate you want.

We have been organizing this day trip combination since the base opened in 2013. The standard approach: 07:30 hotel pickup, 09:00 arrival at the base, 12:30 transfer to Qingcheng Mountain, return to Chengdu by 18:00–19:00.

7. Combining with Qingcheng Mountain

Qingcheng Mountain shares the same intercity rail station as the base and is 5km away. The front mountain (前山) entrance is the closest — taxi from the base takes under 10 minutes, CNY 10. Bus 102 also connects the two in approximately 20 minutes.

The standard sequence: arrive at the base before 09:00 for feeding time, complete your visit by 12:00–12:30, then transfer to Qingcheng Mountain for the afternoon. The mountain requires 3–4 hours for a complete front mountain walk. Both sites fit in a single day, but only if you leave Chengdu by 07:30.

The Dujiangyan Irrigation System is 18km away in the city center direction and pairs better with Panda Valley, which sits near the city. Combining this base and the irrigation system in a single day by public transport is not practical — the transfer takes 1 hour each way and eats into both visits.

8. FAQ: How to Get to Dujiangyan Panda Base

Which train station do I use for the Dujiangyan Panda Base?

Qingchengshan Station (青城山站) — not Lidui Park Station and not Dujiangyan Station. The base sits 5km south of the station in Qingchengshan Town. Trains from Xipu (犀浦站) in Chengdu take 35–45 minutes. A taxi from the station to the base takes 10–15 minutes and costs CNY 12–15.

How far is the Dujiangyan Panda Base from Chengdu?

70km from central Chengdu. By high-speed train to Qingchengshan Station plus taxi, door-to-door is 75–90 minutes. By private car, 75–90 minutes depending on traffic. By long-distance bus and Bus 102, 2.5–3 hours — not recommended for day trips.

How do I get to the Dujiangyan Panda Base from Dujiangyan city center?

The base is 18km from Dujiangyan city center. A taxi from Lidui Park Station (离堆公园站) or the city center costs CNY 35–50 and takes 30–40 minutes. Bus 102 runs from Dujiangyan Bus Station (客运中心站) to the base stop Xiongmao Jikong Zhongxin (熊猫疾控中心) in approximately 70 minutes.

Is the Dujiangyan Panda Base the same as Panda Valley?

No. They are two separate facilities 19km apart, run by different national organizations. This base (熊猫乐园, CCRCGP) specializes in rescue, disease control, and elderly care. Panda Valley (熊猫谷) is run by the Chengdu Research Base and trains pandas for wild release. They use different train stations: this base is nearest to Qingchengshan Station; Panda Valley is nearest to Lidui Park Station or Dujiangyan Station. → See our full comparison.

Can I take Bus 102 directly to the base from Qingchengshan Station?

Yes. Board Bus 102 outside Qingchengshan Station and ride to Xiongmao Jikong Zhongxin (熊猫疾控中心) — watch the display screen inside the bus for this stop name. Then walk 5 minutes to the entrance. Bus frequency is every 30–40 minutes. Taxi is faster and more reliable for morning visits.

What is the best time to arrive at the base?

Before 09:00. Giant pandas are fed from 09:00 and most active until around 11:00; they sleep through the afternoon. A 07:30 departure from central Chengdu — by private car or high-speed train — puts you at the gate before 09:00. Clients arriving after 10:00 consistently see fewer active animals.

Is it possible to combine the Dujiangyan Panda Base and Qingcheng Mountain in one day?

Yes — they are 5km apart and the most natural same-day pairing in this area. Plan 09:00–12:00 at the base, then transfer to Qingcheng Mountain for the afternoon. By private car the transfer takes under 10 minutes. By taxi or Bus 102, 10–20 minutes. Leave Chengdu by 07:30.
