Weibao Mountain (Mt. Towering Treasures) is located in the south of Weishan County about 70 km. north of Dali. The mountain looks like a crouching lion who turns its head back and looks at the county seat and the belt-like Guajiang River in the mist. The giant dam of Huanglizui Reservoir at the foot of the mountain is like the lion’s dressing table, and the placid water the mirror.
Weibao Mountain was the place where Xinuluo, the head of Mengshe Zhao during the early Nanzhao period, rose to power, and it was also an important Daoist mountain in Yunnan. Undulating and magnificent hills are covered with dense forests and there are more than 20 temples scattered over the mountain, yet now, only the Dragon Pond Temple, the Jade Emperor Pavilion, the Old Man Temple, the Twin-Crane Temple, Daoyuan Palace and the Hidden Spring Cave remain. The renowned places, namely the Dragon Pond with Spring Willows, the Ancient Daoist Temple in Blue Haze, the Scholars’ Recitation Platform and the Spring Hidden in Cave are the best scenic spots for tourist to linger on.
